Stepped Reckoner

Most species go extinct. Before they do, some choose to build mausoleum-computers to house an approximation of a collective consciousness to lengthen their existence. But their planets still die, their suns still explode, and ultimately, the universe still ends. We here at the Walking Simulator A Month Club function as archivists as well as a tourism board for those waiting out the heat death of the universe. When we find such a construct, we add it to our simulation so that these poor souls might exist in a simulation inside a simulation, instead of not at all.
