GuidesThe 10 Most Expensive PS1 Games (PAL) 2026 – Prices & Stories
August 03, 2026
The original PlayStation changed gaming forever, selling over 102 million consoles – and millions of households still have a stack of those iconic CD jewel cases in a cupboard.
The bad news: FIFA, Gran Turismo and Tekken are mass-market items. The good news: hiding between them are games that fetch three and even four-figure prices in 2026 – above all Japanese RPGs and late niche releases that hardly anyone bought at the time.
Here are the 10 most expensive PAL PS1 games, ranked by the realistic price for a complete copy (disc + case + manual, "CIB"). One PS1-specific rule: scratched discs and cracked jewel cases hurt the price badly – condition is everything here.
Current price: ~€400–900 (CIB, PAL)
The holy grail for European PlayStation collectors. Konami's masterpiece RPG reached Europe in 2000 in a tiny print run – most retailers simply didn't stock it. Today it's considered one of the best JRPGs ever made, and the PAL version is dramatically rarer than the US release.
Why so expensive?
Current price: ~€300–800 (CIB, PAL)
The ultimate PAL curiosity: the PS1 version of Mega Man X3 released in Europe and Japan – but never in the US. American Capcom collectors have no choice but to hunt the European version, and they're buying up the market.
Why so expensive?
Current price: ~€250–600 (CIB)
The quirky Mega Man Legends spin-off sold miserably in 1999/2000 – too obscure, too Japanese, too late. Exactly that mix makes it one of the most hunted PS1 rarities today.
Why so expensive?
Current price: ~€200–500 (CIB)
Namco's enchanting 2.5D platformer earned glowing reviews at the time – and barely sold anyway. The Klonoa fanbase has grown steadily over the years; the supply hasn't.
Why so expensive?
Current price: ~€150–400 (CIB)
Perhaps the most influential Castlevania of all time ("Metroidvania" carries its name). The European print run was much smaller than the American one – and demand grows every year its reputation does.
Why so expensive?

The pink-haired boar hunter is a textbook case of "shelf-warmer then, treasure now". Whoopee Camp's creative side-scrolling adventure released in Europe as "Tombi!" – in modest numbers.
Why so expensive?

The grail's predecessor benefits from its successor's fame: anyone who owns or wants Suikoden II needs part one too. The 1997 PAL print run was small.
Why so expensive?
Current price: ~€100–250 (CIB)
The classic eighth entry also saw only a small European release. Together with X3, it makes the PS1 an expensive must for Mega Man completionists.

Current price: ~€100–250 (CIB)
The sequel arrived in 1999/2000, when the whole world was already waiting for the PlayStation 2 – the print run was correspondingly small.

The hypnotic ball-rolling puzzler is a European original (barely known in the US as "Roll Away"). Small print run, unique gameplay, growing fanbase.
Why so expensive?
Some of the most valuable PS1 games never released in Europe: Persona: Revelations, Valkyrie Profile and Mega Man Legends 2 exist only as US imports – at €200 to €600+. If you imported back in the 2000s, those discs are gold today.

Usually much less. Platinum reprints (yellow banding) were printed in huge numbers. There are exceptions, but the rule of thumb is: black-label first print = valuable, Platinum = play copy.
Light scratches are normal for 25+ year old CDs and fine. Deep scratches or disc rot (discoloration) hurt the price badly – or make the game worthless. Recording condition honestly pays off.
From actually sold listings (eBay sold items, PriceCharting) – not asking prices of active listings. Lower end = played but complete, upper end = collector condition.
Yes – the market is international. Import grails like Persona or Valkyrie Profile fetch similar prices on eBay worldwide. The Kollekto scanner detects the region automatically.
